Join 4-H members from around Michigan July 18-22, 2022 at the Michigan State University Pavilion for Agriculture and Livestock Education for Michigan 4-H Youth Dairy Days!  Dairy Days is part of Michigan Dairy Expo, a celebration of dairy farmers and dairy cattle in the Great Lake State.  

During the week there are breed shows and showmanship contests for 4-H youth as well as open shows for dairy enthusiasts of all ages.  In addition to cattle events, there are three additional contests young people may participate in: Dairy Management/Skillathon Contest, Dairy Cattle Judging Contest, and Dairy Quiz Bowl.  Make sure to view the registration information for contest descriptions, rules, and additional information.

UPDATE 7/12/2022 - Showmanship on Tuesday, July 19th will begin at 9 a.m. (changed from 7:30 a.m.).  Quiz Bowl on Thursday, July 21 will have the coaches' meeting at 8 a.m. (changed from 7:30 a.m.) and the contest starts at 9 a.m. (changed from 8:30 a.m.).

UPDATE 6/27/2022 - Registration extended to Friday, July 1, 2022!

UPDATE 6/15/2022 - The schedule for the open show has been updated.  For additional information on the open show and to register, please visit the Michigan Holstein Association Facebook page.

UPDATE 4/5/2022 - Both the Dairy Management/Skillathon contest (Junior and Senior divisions) and Dairy Quiz Bowl contest will focus on dairy calf, heifer, and cow health for 2022.  This will not be the sole content of the these contest, but the majority of questions will focus on bovine health.


Schedule of Events
2022 MI Dairy Expo and 4-H Dairy Days

Monday, July 18 (all times listed in EST)


1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. 

Cattle move-in begins. Dairy Days exhibitors must have cattle in place by Monday at 5:00 p.m.  Open show exhibitors are encouraged to arrive Monday and must be in place by Wednesday at 7:00 a.m.  NO early arrival allowed.

6:00 p.m. 

Cattle exhibiting in Michigan Dairy Days Youth Show must be checked in to the show

7:00 p.m.

Dairy Youth Pizza Social - All Dairy Days participants are invited!!! (Show Arena – Bleacher Area)

Tuesday, July 19


9:00 a.m.


Michigan Dairy Days 4-H Youth Show (beginning with Showmanship)

3:00 p.m.

4-H Dairy Management Contest Coaches Meeting

4:00 p.m.

4-H Dairy Management Contest - stations for the Junior and Senior contest will have a focus on dairy calf, heifer, and cow health.  Other content areas will be covered as well, but more questions will focus on bovine health.

5:00 p.m.

All final Quiz Bowl teams must be submitted in writing to the show office by 5 p.m.  If no changes are submitted, teams will be those listed on the original entry form.

6:00 p.m.

UPDATED: The Party Barn will include games and fun for youth!! (Junior Show Shirts will be distributed.)

8:30 p.m.

State Dairy Judging Coaches Meeting - Classroom B (Distribute shirts for Youth Judging Contest)

Open Show Cattle - Breed Association Entry Check-in at Classroom C.  Cattle exhibiting in the Open Breed Shows must check their registration papers in by 4:00 p.m.

Michigan Livestock Expo – Sale-A-Bration (invitation only event)

7:00 p.m.

Quiz Bowl brackets will be posted by the arena and Facebook.

MICHIGAN DAIRY EXPO OPEN BREED SHOWS: Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Milking Shorthorns.  All cows and heifers for listed breeds are shown.

6:00 p.m.

Michigan Dairy Expo Celebration Picnic followed by Dairy Youth and 4-H Recognition Program

9:00 p.m.

Ice Cream Social Celebrating Michigan’s Dairy Industry
